All...trying to find the location of the famous black and white scene used in films of US railroads lined up side by side in a yard...representing historical to modern. Wish I had more detail. Its a common scene. I think the Tom Thumb was one of those.

Do all of those engines in the video still exist?
Its neither of those but the second photo is the closest. Its black and white...it has the trains lined up....starting with I think Tom Thumb...ending with a streamliner of some sorts. It might be a move as well.
check this out this is from the 1939 worlds fair.

I can see this film clip in my head. It was technicolor I think. Its gonna drive me crazy lol. I have seen it so recently on either a Youtube vintage video or a 1970s train film. I thought maybe Riding the Rails but thats not it. Or maybe one of these History Channel shows.
Mike,
Would this be from the 1948 Chicago Railroad Fair? There's several color clips of the pageant on YouTube showing the progression of railroad technology, ending with Chicago, Burlington & Quincy's streamlined Pioneer Zephyr coming on to the stage, then a CB&Q (F3 ?) cab unit meeting a steam engine. Sounds like what you may be thinking of.

Here's one of the films from the Chicago Railroad Fair.
All of these videos are awesome...but I will have to find what I am thinking of and when I do I will post. It was more like the trains all lined up in a yard..with signals nearby...
Problem is, a lot of railroads did publicity photos (or illustrations) like that during the 1930's, so it's hard to know which one you're thinking of. If it really was the Tom Thumb, it probably would have been a picture from the Baltimore & Ohio RR. Seems to me they had some kind of railroad "fair" as part of their 100th anniversary - somewhere around 1929??
I am almost certain that the PRR did one also, I think there was a T1 and GG1 involved..
