I had a Fastrack O-36 switch that had no lights, no action. It had been stored for the last three or four years. Searching the forum I found out about the 2 ohm resistor covered in shrink wrap. Mine resistor apparently failed while in storage.
I have as a short term fix wired it straight through without a replacement resistor and the switch is operating fine. Is it really necessary to replace it for a long term fix?

Manufacturers pay close attention to cost. They will almost never put in a part that is not needed. Is it really only two ohms?
yes, Lionel part number 610-2045-603, 2 ohm, 1/4 watt.
You can get them from DigiKey. They have cheap shipping. I stocked some extras.

It is used for a fused link.
Obviously it works too well for that purpose as many times it seems to fail for no reason. I've seen a number of people commenting on replacing it and all was sell.
