Front End Friday

Well Happy F.E.F folks...Here is a little Japanese Tin Plate for today's entry.  It is a bunker type switcher with an attached coal bunker marked NYC.  It is clearly O'Gauge but actually designed to work on a flat track type system (like an O'Gauge roadway) rather than actual rails.  The maker is "ALPS" and their trade mark is their name written over a line sketch of some mountains.  She is battery powered, using "D" cell inside the boiler.  She has a working head light and fwd/reverse action (manual reverse).

Happy Friday everyone. This week this was the Front end lol 

Here are photos of two 1:8 scale trains at the Tradewinds and Atlantic Railroad in Coconut Creek, FL that I took last December.  I plan on joining that club once things return to normal (they're currently closed to the public).  I know very little about steam engines, so if any of you know what the 1:1 version is of the steamer in the photo please let me know.

Larry, I love the Lionel "graffiti" on the mountainside.

Bob, very sharp sharks.  What brand?

Anyone have any info on Don's Wildlife Express?  The locos in the Magic Kingdom are steamers so Disney world does have a steam program.  Did they expand it with the new park.

Coach Joe:  Except for the pictures, I really have no further information on the Wild Life Express.  While the engine most certainly pulled the train and it gave out some indications of steam, I just did not see the products of combustion (smoke, heat) that I associate with a steam engine.  Their handling of passengers is such that you really cannot get very close to the engine ( I leaned WAY over a barrier to get the shots I posted) so I cannot say more.  If you are in the park however, Its a dandy little ride and seems quite authentic.

Snow is always a good thing to look at in my opinion.  Wouldn't mind seeing some on my backyard lawn right now.  Will never happen though as I live in South Florida.

Joe- they are Williams. I have a ABA set of D&H in boxes too.

Although I am a fan of the NYC Lightning Stripe livery, it pales in comparison to the D&H. And, a question... is an ABA in a box really an engine???  

Hello and Happy F.E.F everyone!  Well its 1936 on the Leonardtown and Savannah and the Union Pacific's new M10005 streamliner is coming for a visit.  Large crowds gather at the downtown terminal to see this sleek new trainset...a vision of the future.  Of course the future would be somewhat different, diesels would dominate but the articulated streamliners would only be around for a few years...then of course there will be the war and steam will get a reprieve till the post war period. But!  All that is to come and today is just a day to celebrate the new train.

Here she is, as envisioned by Louis Marx in 1948-1950.  A Clockwork loco ready to take her consist out of town. 

Here she is showing that she is a AA unit and as configured in 1936 would only pull a few articulated cars.  She was built for speed not capacity.

Great thread, guys!  Here's my scratch built AEM7 which I built in 2001.  It features working pans, opening doors. full interiors and complete lighting effects.  Why scratch built?  I saw two companies in O that made the unit and wanted one, but since I'm in S, the market just isn't there for anybody to make it, so I had no choice.  It took me over a year to get it finished, but it was worth it.

They are just resting, like the parrot At least they are not nailed to the rails.........

I don’t know, Bob... I know a lumberjack (and he’s OK ) who saw that parrot up close and he was definitely dead. I think I’ll have to curl up in the comfy chair and consider if your reply is just spam...

Absolutely stunning job Jerry!

Puts the "model" in model railroading. When the manufacturers won't make it for you, one has to make it for themselves. I don't have that skill set though.

Happy FEF everyone!  Here are a couple of NYC “Thoroughbreds” for this fine Friday. 

Here is a clip of them double-heading the Pol-Ex.  I know it’s too early for a holiday train. I’ll just say they are heading to Beech Grove so the passenger consist can be serviced and prepared for the upcoming season.   Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

Since 95+% of my trains are packed up pending a move, I have to look in my photo files to find things.  Here's my scratch built Thomas the Tank Engine that I made from photos of the Lionel O gauge one and scaled down to S.  That's why it resembles the Lionel one so much! LOL!

Again, since S is considered a "minority" scale, the big manufacturer(s) are reluctant to bring out as many new offerings as in O.  The smaller manufacturers are even more so.
