No more engines out of the Erie plant, I read today. No big surprise especially after the Texas plant was built. read an article the other day that said GE really hasn't been doing all that well as a corp. Tough world out there. Maybe the Chinese will buy it.

My dad worked at the GE Plant in the late 1930's until he got appointed to the Erie fire department. He was glad to get out of that environment. Mean management and vicious Union. Not a pleasant work environment but it was a job.

Just following in the foot steps of hundreds of other factories. You could see this coming a long time ago, even before the Texas plant was built. I would think the GE parts and engine plant would be safe- BUT you never know. The union-management argument gets old. I have been on both sides and witnessed lots of stupidity.
The other strike against Erie is that it is very old and very spread out, which increases costs. There are literally dozens of buildings. EMD Muncie is ONE building.
