Christmas 1938 Model Railroading took a huge leap ahead ... American Flyer / Gilbert , Varney , Mantua and Knapp all introduced thier HO gauge lines ...Lionel introduced thier OO line .
Gilbert's HO line due to "value" pricing was a huge success among both would be toy train buyers ...and that rapidly growing model Railroading world .
Gilbert's Hudson with an AC motor and reverse unit cast it towards "toy train" status among the scale world ...but modelers we're quick to " improve" the Hudson closer to scale needs ...all at about half the price of a Varney or Mantua engine.
Pittman was quick to seize the opportunity to offer a DC motor conversion kit for the Hudson .
Here we have a creative " hide the Hudson" modification into a Southern Pacific Daylight ...with scale wheels, Pittman DC motor , skirting and cowl. Engine pulling the prewar Varney Streamlined cars in Daylight colors.
