Golden Gate Depot 1951 Super Chief

Personally, I can't see Sunset/3rd Rail/GGD offering any "F" type units outside of their recently announced FT units. Between all the regular "F" type units offered by Atlas O, MTH, and Lionel, I believe it would be VERY difficult for Scott Mann to collect enough reservations for models of F3, F5, F7, and F9 units. 

I completely agree with HW about Sunset's F unit plans. I assume you are a 2 rail person, Steve, since this post is on the 2 rail forum. Key has made Santa Fe F units and will probably run them again.

 

Future Sunset diesel projects may jnclude SD units, E-8's and perhaps PA-PB units although that would be speculation at this point.

 

There are no Budd cars.  Only PS and ACF.

 

The only Fs in the pipeline are the FP7s due next month and the the FTs.  Reservations for the FTs are very slow so it will be a while on those.  I would imagine SD7s and 9s as Bob suggests are most likely.  I think E8/9s will depend on what Lionel finally delivers.  

 

Also, a major dealer backed out of their reservations at the last minute for the Super Chief so there are both 2 and 3-rail sets and add on cars available directly.

My ATSF 4_4-2 sleeper arrived yesterday and I'm very pleased with the model.  It will run it in my 48 Broadway Limited right behind a BM70 (on order) and ahead of of a PRR Rapids series 10-6 sleeper  - just like the prototype.

I was surprised to see the dome with flat glass in it.  I did not realize domes were built this late with flat glass.  Was the curved glass a Budd thing?

The Pullman standard built domes had the flat glass - Budd used the curved glass. If you check out domes PS built for roads such as the Wabash you'll see the same pattern/styling.

The only flat glass Budd dome car was the CB&Q's Silver Dome, rebuilt from a flat roof coach by the Burlington in 1945 with Budd assistance.  This car is also known as the"pattern" dome car as it became the pattern for all the Budd short domes that followed.

Notice the letterboard and name board don't line up with the dome.

Don't forget about the Budd C&O/D&RGW domes they also used flat glass.

Hi Eric - of course! I always forget those ones - and I love the 'angle' the domes were set at too or am I now getting muddled with PS cars! lol.

I did order both sets they await in Cedar Falls with Caboose Stop Hobbies.

I kind of feel bad for those of us who spent big bucks on PRB's 51' SC cars that are actually 1956-57 era cars. The GGD cars will undoubtably flat line the market for those.

Thanks Eric for the D&RGW pic post. I guess that is the problem as advances are made with model trains. Having said that, I sure am glad Scott is around - it puts things into the financial reach of those of us without 'deep pockets'. I'm hoping he will do some E6s one day (and CB&Q E5s - dream on Steve!).

Yes, but,

 

The ONLY thing different between E7s and the E6s is the nose contour.  Even the pilot that came with the E7s is the E6 early E7 version.  The only thing the same with the E8/9s shells is the nose.

 

And besides, the Lionel E8/9s are due any day now and no one has a clue how well they will turn out given their catalog drawings were completely wrong and Lionel said trust us.
