Looked up the price at Reynauld's and it definitely was "sticker shock"! Reminds me of the time I spotted an awesome new Lamborgini at my favorite restaurant here in Nashville, and it still had the sticker and dealer plates: $437,000! It is another world some folks travel in! Definitely NOT my world! LOL!

I do not know about prices in $ for KM1 and Kiss German locomotives but in Europe these are very affordable; there might be high import charges? I run them but never use the smoke feature (when I want to see steam I run live-steam):

Regards

It even sounds great without seeing the effects.

$5000+  USD for the KM1 engine with smoke, cylinder smoke, sound and digital control. Probably included import duty, but not shipping?

Seems like they're down a bit from the last time I looked at them. They were higher than that and now they're lower. (2016?)

here's a post of some more

Uh oh. Maybe the moderator will allow that?

Come on guys, we're trying to make this forum section stronger!

Nice loco & smoke/ steam effects! Any large scale steamer can smoke like that when equipped with a ESU LokSound XL?? decoder...but almost have to use ESU's $100 smoke units that are plastic and have a logic board on them...and many wires running between them and the decoder.

Actually the price ain't all that bad considering the USA Trains Big Boy & FEF-3 cost close to $4k. Most all Accucraft brass loco's are over $5k and Aster, Fine Art Models & Row Co. is over $10k. I seen a LGB/ Aster 2-10-10-2?? once and that thing was like $8k.

One should not have to take out a second mortgage to purchase a model locomotive! I own three homes in two states, but do not consider myself wealthy. I have five grandchildren and help with college tuition for three of them. Recently helped my son in law with some funds to pave his driveway. It comes down to priorities, and family is number ONE. I have had a number of trains over the decades, but no exotic locos like Fine Arts, etc and I have enjoyed my more modest trains, including Gauge One live steam, and still had fun and NO regrets!
