We've acquired our first JLC steamer yesterday and am curious about the history of them. We had a Tuscan 5 stripe JLC GG1 for awhile and it was an extremely nice model.
What were the locomotives in this series and were the G's the only non-steam models?

I'd be interested in what JLC models were made and dates and numbers of each made.
At the time of the JLC products of which most were steam were the top of the line at that time.
They came with RS5 ans some of them had 4 chuffs per rev. The list of JLC engines are:
big boy
challenger
H7
allegheny
GG1
if you have others please add to the list.

I dont believe the Big Boy was a JLC Series loco. The first one if I recall correctly was the UP Challenger.
I think there are several here with the JLC Big Boys that will disagree with you.
I thought the N&W Y6a was a JLC
Was thinking of the original Big Boy from 1999 that wasn't a JLC Series Loco.

Not all of them did and the majority may have only had RS4. I know the Y6b is RS4
I did a quick search on Lionel and of the 14 listed by Ed H 9 are RS5 including all the GG1s.

The Lionel site says the Allegheny was in the 2007 Vol 2 catalog. Notice the list above says "2005 Vol 2". Maybe 'delivered' in 2007?

If I remember correctly, the Y6b was the last major release of RailSounds 4. But it had a lot of cool things stuffed into it, which then became standard on RS5.
The Allegheny is a beautiful engine. Hope you enjoy it Sam, and a very Merry Christmas to you and Barbara.

Sam, I think the C&O Allegheny was the best of the JLC series. detail, especially the tender trucks is outstanding for a cast loco.
Do not forget the Virginian Allegheny.

They are kinda poor running compared to the Legacy locos coming out of Lionel today, but still better than the Pullmor engines overall and still decent. The sounds are still really nice.
Normally I see the 1999 6-28011's go for between $500 to $850 online, but you're likely going to see sellers ask for more in person at shows.

Ahh, that's what you meant!
I don't see the JLC Alleghenies on sale often, mainly because I guess their owners really want to keep them! I'm going to guess the value on them is between $800 and $1100.

Do you have an item number? I can't find any info on a JLC Virginian?
I couldn't either Chris but found one on the bay (asking $1200!). Item no6-28028. Not JLC.
Gather that this was a companion to the original C&O from 1999 I see mentioned above. These have RS4 and no Odyssey.
