good evening all. I recently received a free box of HO stuff...I bought a Life Like diesel at a flea market that runs like a top. However, the coupler isn't compatible with the other couplers....is that a common issue with HO scale?
"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.
Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Yes, that is a common problem with H0, but in general the couplers can be removed easily and replaced by KADEE couplers.

The older HO items had the "horn hook" coupler. Most newer cars come with Kadee knock offs. Here is a photo of both.

As I recall, the Kadee patents expired sometime in the 1990's. After that, Kadee or Kadee compatible couplers became standard on all new products being manufactured. Before that, the so-called "NMRA Coupler" (also known as the X2F) was standard on new products.
Back in the 50's, many modelers used Mantua loop couplers or Baker couplers.

Probably a Kadee knock-off. Also looks like the knuckle spring is missing, so it won't stay closed in operation.
