I was there this past March for their open house.  Very nice layout and worth the drive to go see if you don't live close by.  I am not a member but member of North Central O Gaugers which is in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago.  If you are interested we have a train run every month that is open to the public and is free.

Ray Marion, who is a frequent contributor to our Forum, is an active member. Great group of O-Gauge folks and a very nice layout to visit.

While this forum is a great resource I'm looking to get a little more "hands on" knowledge...

Jeff, if you're in the north suburbs, I'll put in a second rec for the North Central O Gaugers. They run their modular layout at various venues in the northern suburbs, and once a month in Mundelein, at the Fremont Library on Midlothian Road. I'm not a member, but they're a friendly bunch.

The CLRC is a great group, but if I'm going to drive all the way to New Lenox, I'd might as well continue on to St. Louis.
