So questions about this set come up now and then. On the wanted Forum some one is looking for it. I said I would post some pictures of my set. This is the second set it have had the first set it sold when I sold trains to by my Corvette. I always wished I hadn't and I was lucky to find another one. I believe they were made in 1980 without permission and Lionel. They had to stop production but could sell what they had. I really think that this is a really sharp set.

Those are quite handsome and very representative f Lionel.
What chassis do they have and were they sold as cabs only?
The first set I had I put on a set of postwar frames . This set came on MPC frames. Works fine for a short train.
IMHO, there is no question that Lionel missed the boat on this one.
Maybe they will make one of their own someday.
But how: Full blown electronic with all the bells and whistles, or a basic postwar style?
I always thought this looked much better than the orange and blue set they made. It needed some cream color.

"They had to stop production..."
That's what happens when ones' art dept. is inferior to another's.
Some get it right and some do not.
Bobby here are the pictures you were asking about.
