"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

I know this request will fall on mostly deaf ears, but I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to locate information about this model:

A friend wants to sell her deceased husband's large scale model of the N & W J-Class #611.  I was unable to locate the manufacturer anywhere on the model.  The only clues I have was that one plate underneath reads: Korea, Sam Hong.  There is another plate that shows "#21 out of 61."  It has an on/off slide switch for smoke and a similar button that just has "on/off".  There is a wire tether that connects the tender to the engine.

Please let me know if you have any information that I can pass on to her.

Thanks,

Greg

Although only minimally helpful...
1. It is a Gauge 1 (1:32) locomotive made by Samhongsa of Korea circa 1991.
2. It was imported by "Garden Railway Company", which was located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
3. The locomotive came in a wooden case.

Interesting.

That means that it was produced when Samhongsa (I think that it is more properly "Sam Hong Sa" in English, but I use one word like most of us) was also making numerous O-scale (1:48) brass steamers for Williams - including a model of this same N&W loco.

I mention this only because it can be an indicator of this #1 Scale loco's construction quality, should anyone ask. The Williams 1:48 Samhongsas were well-made products, with basic but good detailing and decent mechanicals.
