Since they were predicting showers on and off today, I figured it would would be a good day to spend some time on the layout. Got up this morning to fog, but it burned off quickly and we appear to have a nice day. Despite the weather, I will spend some time fine tuning the layout. However, if it stays nice, I may cut it short and take the boat out.
What about you, any train plans for today?

I have been working on my layout every day for the past month for about 30 minutes a day.
It is so hot here still, I do not feel like going outside...still have 1 more week until the weather moderates down into the 70s during the day and 60s at night.
Been watching a ton of videos on UTube via my Roku box, and of course online train shopping.
Then there was the impromptu floor layout I built yesterday when left "Home Alone" for several hours!

I have "anti-train" plans today. We are relaxing for the holiday before another big moving trip and I am taking the opportunity to box up the last of the trains and corral all the Gargraves track from the old layout. New layout will be all Atlas O so there will be Gargraves on the For Sale board soon.
Just came down from the attic. Ran a train for a bit. But later I have to start cleaning up the layout from working on it over the past few months so it will be ready for some running when I host my train club next month. ......Paul
I put a little trim on the saloon structure last night, and may get some more work done on it today, although the lawn jumped out of the ground and needs a haircut. However, it is drizzling, so I may be spared from that. Otherwise, not too exciting..
As soon as I am confident that the rains are over, I plan to keep working on my stone arch bridge today. I like to do most of my sawing in the driveway so I don't get saw dust all over everything in the garage.

This is something I should have finished loooong ago I've been stalling on for way too long. I was going to install the Evans LED's for headlights, but this will be set up as a trailing unit, and without directional lighting* there's not a whole lot of point to installing them in this unit. This and its companion will be the assigned power for my Auto-Train.
*(I assume there is a way to get directional lighting with the stock Williams reverse unit, but I haven't researched it)

Its still relatively early in the Pacific Northwest. I first took some pictures of my USA made Navy tanker car and then made a post of the car, hopefully others will add pictures of their USA made cars.

I also updated my avatar with a new picture. In October, I will be going to York for the first time, so this recent picture may make it easier to spot me. The picture was taken in March next to a huge fish tank at a restaurant in Hong Kong. I added the full picture in the post. I don't know what kind of fish it was, but it was big.
Lastly, On Friday, my wife and I took the day off and went to Seattle. I am attaching some pictures of King Street Station and Union Station; both have been remodeled (Union has no trains, but is next to the Light Rail Station).

Probably not today. I worked 12 hours last night. Slept 7 hours today. I have a few hours before heading back in for another 12 hour night shift. It's 86 and humid here in southern Maine. Going to jump into the pool to cool off.

Unexpectedly nice day today Mike. The pool sounds good. I did some fine tuning on the layout for about an hour and then it was out on the water with the boat.

As far as trains...well, I have been struggling with DCS again. Worked perfectly for a few months and now for whatever reason, it has problems. I changed out one of the TIUs for a spare and it has been hit and miss. Very frustrating so today I decided to stay away from the trains... By the way, the Legacy works just fine!
It rained here this morning and then a BIG cool down. 87 degrees right now but the grass is wet and so my plans to mow will have to wait until later this evening or tomorrow evening....

Installed the 990 Legacy System today. Thank God for the Lionel video's. Only thing I can't figure out is how to program and operate my SF Station Diner.
Worked on some Timberline Products smashed trees. Great product, easy to modify, cheap price, and who doesn't need more trees on their layout?
Pool all day and firing up the grill. Played a little wiffle ball with the grandson before he left for home.

Putting up a on30 line on the second level using 1/2" foam core.
Had a steak dinner which is something special beings I don't eat allot of red meat.
Did nothing today and to be honest have not run a train since end of April. With 3 kids, house maintenance and the nice weather (we had a great summer in NY this year)I just had no desire and neither did my son who is 8. But with September here I have plans on getting back it real soon.

L.I. Train, I belong to the www.bdsme.org The 2 rail track runs the outside of the 3 rail layout. The 2 rail track has a single mainline with 2 passing sidings, and a small drop track. The 3 rail track is a double mainline with 5 passing sidings, 1 long stub track and 1 short stub track. On the west side is S scale in between the 3 rail mainline, and on the east side is a On30 between the 2 rail and 3 rail track. The upstairs is the HO layout.
Well, I finished the WBB upgrade:
There was one wrinkle: one of the truck blocks had the hole for the pickup roller screw drilled slightly off, so the corresponding hole in the sideframe carrier didn't line up, preventing the insulator bushing from fitting in. A little work with a round file cleared that one up.
I still don't know about the directional headlight thing--I wanted to install the Evans LED's (one of them is lit up next to the front motor), but I didn't turn up anything on making them directional aside from installing TMCC or DCS in the locos.

I repaired a Colber oil well whose lamp bracket and socket had seen better days. (I even documented the steps with photos since I couldn't find any directions on the Internet and had to figure it out myself.) The oil well is lit and bubbling like new again, ready to go back on the layout.
I also assembled the billboard supports for one of Miller Engineering neon signs, Mr. Peanut. I should have the billboard up and running on the layout later this week.
Finished painting half of the switching layout track. Using MTH scaletrax and Krylon camo earth brown as a base. Will then weather using chalks and rust paint.
Took a ride on the N.C.R.R out of New Freedom, PA.
The William H. Simpson #17 is a faithful replica of the Civil War steam locomotive that carried Abraham Lincoln to deliver his now famous Gettysburg Address. These same tracks carried Lincoln's funeral train two years later. You can now ride this newly built 1860s replica steam locomotive with newly built coaches that arrived at the end of September 2013.
