This sucker is 2100 pieces. The price tag may be around $200, based on other sets in this line around this size. I'm still going to buy it.
I didn't realize Lego made curve-sided bricks as used on the boiler and the bottom side of the tender.
That thing is a beast! I hope they produce it. It's gotta be heavy with that many pieces.

Slight correction, if it gets 100,000 votes then The LEGO Group will seriously look into what it would take to produce this set. This includes market demand, if it fits into the existing LEGO train systems, licensing costs, and even if UP would allow their pride and joy be made and sold by LEGO.
That said, I voted for it as soon as I found out about it a few weeks ago, and if it goes get made, I'll be buying up the max number of sets I can (Normally 5.).
100,000 votes? I guess we now know how many sets LEGO believes they must produce to get greenlit. So much for recent product being "rare" in the secondary market.

They don't actually make that many, but for a specialized set, if they can move 10% of that number then they will probably run with it. Sets like these are tricky sell. The big boy is somewhat limited to train enthusiasts but has worldwide appeal. Typically lego would offer the set unpowered with optional instructions to use their latest power system. Another issue is that standard lego L gauge curves are really tight and they want a product compatible with the track system. After market curved track is readily available in wider radius.
I would really like to see lego start including instructions to build to O gauge.

I don't want to be too negative, but this Big Boy isn't really up to par with how far Lego models can be taken. Experienced designers can make some really impressive stuff out of Legos.

John, beautiful examples in your post. At this point I hope enough people register the like so it can move forward. My gut is that the artist(s) will do a very impressive job if they were to take it on. If all it takes is for people to click the link above to move forward, then here are fingers crossed.
The typewriter and the piano were well done from Lego. A great locomotive with Technics touchescertainly deserves the same billing. As we used to say in Chicago, vote early, and vote often

I'm a huge fan of the Lego/O gauge combo. A long time ago I built this gondola based off plans that were available free online. I modified an old set of mpc era trucks.
More recently I built this hopper from commercially available plans on Brick Model Railroader. The lego wheel treads are very skinny, so I used some older 2 rail wheel sets I had laying around. @Johnbeere helped me refine a truck design for use on O gauge track. The decals and kadee coupler mounting boxes came from BMR.
I hope you guys like my projects. I really wish lego would issue instructions for O gauge but I won't be holding my breath.

Wow! Look at the size of that thing! That Lego Big Boy is amazing. If it is made, I'd love it to have details for building an original coal-fired version, the 4014 restoration version, and multiple road number details. I would buy it if I had the room.
Can someone ID this one I have. Have no clue or any info on how to list it. Its just under 2 ft long. Thanks - JP

I actually had that set when I was younger, it's a Megabloks (lego lookalike) 9778 steam train.

Seems like I was wrong - I'll delete my answer. Never seen one of those before.
Looks like there's an outbreak of LegoMania happening here. What's scary is I'd seriously consider getting one.
