For me, I'm thinking:

  • LEGACY NKP Golden Spike 759
  • LEGACY Southern 2716
  • LEGACY Milwaukee Road S3 Hiawatha 260
  • LEGACY PRR E6 460
  • Polar Express Passenger cars
  • Atlantic Coast Line E6 locomotives
  • ATSF F3 ABBA units
  • GTNX Gondolas with graffiti

And possibly:

  • SP, SSW, RJ Corman, & Rio Grande SD40T-2 locomotives
  • GE Demonstrator AC6000 6001
  • CSX Boxcar Logo AC6000 691
  • PRR K4 1930 Broadway Limited Set
  • PRR Add on coaches
  • PRR Clerestory Roof Baggage
  • Hot Wheels Race Team LionChief set

For sure:

GM&O wood chip hopper. (**UPDATE** - I shall not be ordering this car as it is the wrong color - it is a red; the real cars were black...why is this so hard. Lionel? You had to do the research for the artwork...there are photos...)

GM&O TOFC trailer 2-pack - maybe a car, also (I have the original Weaver version; nice).

GM&O - if they (accurately - see above) build it, I will spend.

Maybe:

Georgia Marble and Union Carbide 2-bay hoppers.

I also have a couple of questions:

  1. Will the Southern Berkshire 2716 have the correct whistle from a Southern PS-4?  I heard they're doing different whistles/horns on their locomotives lately.  The 2716 will also need white wall drivers and no flying numberboards.
  2. Like on the Berkshires, will the Milwaukee Road 4-8-4s have polished rods or blackened rods?  The Hiawatha paint scheme would look nice with polished rods.

The addition of  of bluetooth to Legacy locomotives is terrific.  This will help take the hobby to one operating system that is available to everyone and modernize the control interface (a tablet or phone with the application) at the same time.  It will also save Lionel from dealing with the issue of maintaining obsolete hardware in the form of the Legacy controller.

I will definitely order the hobby shop.  Missed it the first time around.  May get a locomotive as well.  I need to get more shelving at York in October.

While I'd love to get a full PE set, the layout won't allow it.

* The Legacy Atlantics are nice....a "maybe" but that is a heck of a lot of money for a small engine like that.

* I like the Smithsonian Southern 1401 and John Bull Boxcars but I don't really need them and at $85 a pop........maybe, but not likely.

* Tidewater Tank Car is a likely. The real one, same # is fully restored in Strasburg.

Nothing for me this time around but I admit there's lot of attractive product for many. As I expected, previous offerings with updated electronics and new road names on extant tooling. I've accepted that this is going to be way it is as we head into the twilight years of this second golden age of toy trains. Me, I'm buying better Postwar and Standard gauge as the prices have settled down quite a bit so I'm happy.

When I spoke with the Lionel Reps at the Orlando Train Show a few weeks ago, I specifically asked them if they were planning on offering a newer version of the 2006 Hiawatha that I absolutely love.

The answer I received was to keep an eye out for the catalog and you might see something "Hiawatha Inspired".

Well, I was not expecting a S3 Loco in Hiawatha colors to say the least.

I am sure it will be a great addition to my collection, however, that price tag is pretty steep! We will have to see what the future holds as I did not see any Hiawatha Passenger Cars to go with the engine in this catalog.

Regarding actual pre-order as in BTO, the scale P/E and maybe an extra coach or two.

I am interested in the E6 (C&NW, IC and ATSF), but I have the exact same concerns as I had with Sunsets E6 offerings, in that there is no commitment to build out the engines with a set of matching passenger cars. To be honest, I did reserve the C&NW set from Sunset with the "hope" that a set of cars might be produced in the future, but that is an expensive "hope".

i will not pre-order the Lionel e6, but will try to view and pick up a set if Lionel does announce cars to go with the engines

The most recent version of Lionel e6 is a already a very nice model so I will have no problems with this version.... except no proper or matching set to go with the engines.

i also want to echo J Daddy's comment above  "I do appreciate that Lionel listened and is offering both as powered units."

i think for the difference in price, I would rather two power units for the E6 offerings.

The other engine I willl be looking at is new Santa Fe f3's. I already have a set of a Sunset f7'e, but do not have a set of f3's

I collect PE & Polar RR, so I should be able to complete my set of scale passenger cars (just need the combi; I got the rest used online 2 years ago) as well as add another gold coach for that set.  Oddly, the one big piece I need is the black #1225 Berkshire.  Feeling better that I didn't pay close to $2k online for one a couple of years ago.   I'll also probably get the Polar Railroad tank car, too.

I'd really love to get the Wheeling & Lake Erie Berkshire - I already have the Mallet & Mikado for this local road - but I don't think it's in the budget, at least as a pre-order.  Hopefully I can snag one in a year or two.
