I am working on a Lionel 4-8-4 Northern the smoke unit gets hot but doesn't smoke. Has anyone come across this before? The Lionel item number is 6-18016. I also need a wiring schematic for the same engine.

I see it has the plunger type of smoke unit. If no smoke comes out, the batting is charred or the piston is stuck it the up position...or the cam is slipping on the axle.

Just rebuilt, Piston moves up and down on the cam. That's why I'm at a loss. Thanks for the reply I appreciate it.
