I have several Lionel freight cars from the 1980's, some have metal truck side frames. All the couplers are plastic with the metal "tack" on the bottom. Most all the couplers apparently do not have any spring mechanism and as a result, when the coupler tack is activated, the knuckle does not open freely.
I do have several Lionel all metal trucks with metal couplers that have a spring on the knuckle. These work GREAT.
Other than replacing the entire truck, has anyone found a way to improve the overall operation of these plastic couplers?
Thanks,
RAY
