I would like to learn more about the Lionel Super Chief aluminum set of 1995 ( or so). I believe this train came with a set of F3s in the expected war bonnet paint, but the cars are what really set this train off. They had Budd roof fluting all the way down the side of the cars to the top window rail. This is what set the AT&SF Pine cars apart from many other Budd 10-6 fluted cars. Anyone have the numbers, or other details? This train also featured a correct round Super Chief yellow drum head. Not sure of the exact date of release either, but I believe this is close - 1995.

Was this set of cars lettered for Santa Fe or Lionel lines? Are there two roof variations? In one set of photos, the cars appear to have smooth roofs.
This aluminum 4 car passenger set is lettered LIONEL LINES. The lighted drum head on the observation car has the Super Chief lettering along with the Indian Chief Headdress War Bonnet. This is the only reference to the Super Chief. The only smoothness on the aluminum surface is the band with the windows. Other wise the aluminum is fluted. The two car add on sets are identical to the 4 car set. The 4 car sets shipping carton has a 1996 manufacturing date. They're just like the post war 2500 series passenger cars but better. I've had this set since new and are favorites of mine for Christmas running.
