LionMaster is the designation given to engines with a high degree of detail but that are not true O scale in dimensions.  LionChief is the name of the control system that primarily replaced TMCC in lower tier engines such as found in starter sets.  Over the years, enhancements were made to the LionChief system to where we now have version 2.0 which includes TMCC as part of its functionality.

I suspect (but do not know exactly) that since they were sold as high end locomotives, ie, highly detailed, but scaled-down versions of high end scale locomotives, they all came with TMCC and RS.

Do you have one? If you have one, all you have to do is look underneath the engine for the Run/Program buttons.

if you don’t, search the Lionel website and you can probably find a manual.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. Is Lionmaster Tmcc or Legacy?

I have a Lionmaster big boy from a few years back. It is actually a Lionchief 2.0 but came in a Lionmaster box so not sure if the Lionmaster name is getting thrown around other items these days. I think the Lionmaster locomotives are large trains that are designed to run on small curves (O31). I think back in the day they were TMCC but now are basically LC+ 2.0. They did a cab forward recently as well.

I think the earlier Lionmaster Big Boys (before Lionchief) had whistle steam.

Lionmaster , highly detailed " semi scale locomotives . They were originally offered with Tmcc. When Legacy came along a few of the models were re-released with legacy and whistle steam.

The most recent Lionmaster offerings, only the bigboy has Lionchief 2.0 and TMCC.

Models offered as follows:

Nyc & BA hudson. Once with TMCC

PRR t1, once with TMCC, once with Legacy.

N&W class A , once with TMCC, once with Legacy. ( albeit the Legacy version was a poor performer due to back emf speed control)

UP challenger  multiple TMCC and Legacy versions.

UP bigboy, once with TMCC, multiple Legacy versions and a Lionchief 2.0

SD 80/90 was offered in both TMCC, and, Legacy versions.

Thanks guys. I just did some searches and it looks like they are like Brad said. The engines seem too big to be running on my 5X10 036 super O curves. Even if they could make it around the curves they'd probably have a ridiculous overhang.  I guess I'll be sticking with the old TMCC and Lionchiefs which to me are Post War on steriods. I don't mind that non scale stuff because that's what I've been looking at for 75 years. I'm really liking the 2.0 stuff.

Thanks again for the insight.

The Lionmaster Hudson is my favorite semi-scale steam locomotive. https://www.lionel.com/product...-hudson-5422-6-38085

Lacks the 4 chuffs of the newer LC+ tech, but I think it's a better looking piece. At 22" for the engine and tender, it's fine on 36" curves.

With the addition of the Chuff-Generator and the Super-Chuffer II you can have many of the features of the newer Legacy models including 4-chuffs, chuffing smoke & smoke at idle, Rule-17 LED lighting, automatic cab light control...
