Hi. I have a 2340 GG-1 (The CC version reissued by Lionel a few years back) that's developed a weird operating quirk. It runs great; but the couplers (magnetic; not coil couplers) have developed a habit of popping open easily when that GG-1 is pulling a heavy load. What is the best way to adjust the couplers on this G so it'll pull a nice, long train like she was meant to?

If it helps-the CC 2340 uses the regular magnetic/mechanical couplers-not the coil couplers like on the Postwar G's. I have been thinking of just replacing the pony trucks with Postwar trucks from eBay so that it solves the coupler problem-unless anyone knows how to adjust those %^&* mechanical coulpers (which look sort of like the ones on the 2500-series passenger cars).
If these have a metal armature you can try pulling it down, out, and sideways and bending it up slightly.
Thanks, Norton! I'll try that.
Hi, Norton (and everyone else). I tried your repair, but it didn't work. What I finally restored to (as a test before ordering new Postwar Pony Trucks from eBay) was taking one coil-coupler equipped pony truck off my postwar 2330 and switching it onto the CC 2340. It fit perfectly and solves my problem so long as I use the coil-coupler truck to pull a load of cars. The mechanical truck from the CC 2340 went onto my 2330 on its front end (where it normally won't be connected to anything) and the 2330 runs OK with it as its leading truck. Finally got a temporary cure until the pony trucks I will be buying off eBay later this week come in and I can throw away the mechanical coupler ones altogether. Perfect gfix acheieved by switching some stuff around. The CC 2340 is finally pulling my Williams Congressional set as it was meant to.
For future reference, I've used small cable ties around the coupler to hold the mechanical arm in place so that the coupler doesn't spring open.
