You should be able to run Marklin HO trains with a Lionel transformer, just keep the throttle at or below 16 volts for Marklin motors.

However, you won't be able to activate the reverse unit. As I recall, Marklin uses a higher voltage pulse than running voltage to activate the reverse unit.
