This past weekend, many of the museums and tourist rail lines, and possibly a big railroad or two, celebrated by decorating their trains for Halloween. This is the first time Steamtown’s steam engine got the treatment.

Even Canadian National no. 3254 got into the act, catching this spook on her smoke box.

That is my contribution for the holiday. A new month starts tomorrow. Get out with your camera, and catch history in the making.

The thread is now yours to add any thing you like. It doesn’t have to be Halloween related.

I've got a few, I guess.

1. Tulare, SD.  N/B BNSF manifest.  It had seven engines pulling a long train, but even with a 20mm lens I could only get four.

2. Hetland, SD.  RCPE e/b manifest.

3. Baltic, SD.  DAIR n/b pulling empties back to Dell Rapids.  I have since cut down more trees and hope to get another crack at this again this week.  All depends on the wind being calm, which is not typical.

4. Madison, SD.  Crew of the Prairie Village RR.  Camera:  1925 Gundlach Korona, Lens:  1938 Heliar 150mm, shot on 4x5 glass plate f8, 2 seconds, ISO 1.   All period-correct to the engine.

Just another example of your determination to get the photo you envision, Kent.

We are fortunate to have a photographer who will plow through waist-deep snow, walk across frozen lakes, go out on dirt roads (dry and dusty or wet and muddy) at 2 A.M. for night photos, and now we know that you also carry a tree saw.  Additionally, you are usually alone, in very sparsely-populated territory.

Unstoppable!  I tip my hat.

1.  Don't tell my wife about the chainsaw.  The levee was steep and the rocks were slippery.

(I'll add I prefer to drive across the frozen lakes.)

2.  Not alone by choice.  There's no one I know who's crazy enough to go with me.

The wind has been calm.  I have more shots for this Wednesday.
