I popped the shell on my GP-9 (30-2920-1) to have a go at the loud smoke unit. I discovered a leaking battery (see pics). There has been no effect on performance. Works great. I'll swap it out now. I don't see much chatter about the blue batteries so just putting this out there. This engine is circa 2009 but I bought it NOS earlier this year.

I had a battery leak once, but not as bad as yours. An info check in April 2015 on an RS3 showed up low battery. The RS3 was made in 2011 and the battery was dated 2009. Made the decision to switch to BCRs very easy.

That can happen. You can actually roll your own supercap replacement fairly easy, and the cost is around $5-6. If you're doing a number of these, it starts to look cost effective. 
Here's one of mine compared to two AAA batteries for size.
