I'm probably going to get just a few cars. I liked the NS A44C6M's, both the regular ones and the black and silver ones. A couple of things I'm just not understanding are they make 2 UP AC6000's both in 2 cab#'s. Yet none of the CSX's are being made in different cab#'s. The BNSF GS-4, nice, but no passenger cars?

Bill

Oh crap, it looks like I'll be violating one of my long standing rules on this catalog. I'm going to break down and buy some MTH engines. They will all have to be converted to TMCC, so at some point I will have PS3 electronics for sale. Probably three units.

Gotta have the Northstar Rail set (one engine and all 6 cars), the CP and Soo MP15AC's, and just the Superliner phase IV add on coaches and sleeper to match my existing and beef up an Empire Builder set to a near proper consist (9 cars). I can live without the CP holiday train.

List is around 2K, early buy price around $1600 maybe. I passed on volume one.

I hope that I'm not going to be sorry that I asked this....why wouldn't you just purchase a DCS less buying all the stuff you are going to have to buy and then sell the PS3 stuff???  Lots of folks have both the Lionel and MTH command....????

Have you seen the man's layout? I imagine it would be a little work to wire the layout for DCS!!!!

I usually might suggest just getting DCS running on a loop of track instead of everything. In this case, even that would take a little more cash and effort than the average layout.

Yes I have.  All you do is cable the systems together.  Re-wire is not needed.

I can't wait to see how many people will argue that the R&N 425's headlight should be in the center and not on top of the boiler.

I was hoping to see a RK Imperial version.  Will the R&N' red lined bell be placed on the top/front of the boiler since the catalog shows it aft the stack and although the other road-name pacific models on that page show the bell positioned on the top/front of the boiler.  I also hope MTH is more thorough proofing all pre-production artwork and models so that they are not embarrassed by another R&N misspelling.

Glad to see RJ Corman make the cut, but it would have been nicer to see their more prevalent road power instead of the switcher.  Wonder if MTH will use a glossy red finish?

I wouldn't mind getting the Warbonnet BNSF GP60M, but I doubt that I will.

They incorrectly stated in the catalog that Maersk is a German shipping company, should have been Danish shipping company.  Just sayin'.

For a few years in the 1940s they were German....   Just sayin'.

John, there is another reason. I'm going to be doing "live action" computer control. That means the computer can tell a train to start, stop, speed up, slow down, in real time. Nothing pre programmed, all based on track conditions ahead. That is not possible with DCS, because the command codes are not published as with TMCC/Legacy or even DCC. I have no desire to open that DCS can of worms. It is much easier to just change them out from the get-go. I may have to rethink those MP15's. Executive decision pending.

There is also a deeper philosophical reason having to do with Mike Wolf and his entry into the command market years ago. My grudge can last a long time, but my desire for some unique pieces has me on the fence.

Okay Elliott.  Thank you...that makes sense about codes...you are running a much more complex operation than me.  I attempt to keep everything as basic as possible for a number of reasons.  If the opportunity arises, I will hopefully one day be there with you to see it in action.  You have a spectacular project.  I'm hoping that one day it will be professionally recorded.  I will be the first one in line for a copy!

I MAY, MAY, break down and get the Lionel control as well myself.  I have told myself I will buy nothing but MTH PS3 DCS.  Thus far, I have stuck to it.  Hopefully, Lionel/Atlas won't come up with something I can't resist.  There is still a ton of MTH Premier engines I want to buy and they carry a lot of Great Northern, BN and BNSF (Yes Amtrak) all the roads in Marias Pass.

I saw several items I wanted the first time through the new catalog. MTH has gotten to me again!

The only 'MUST have' so far is the Kansas City trolly. The Premier Christmas train is very tempting as well.

There are several more 'sure would like to haves' though. Those will have to be whittled down somewhat before placing my order to keep the budget somewhat in check. The MTH RTR catalog already has some of the budget.

I like the ALP-46 and corresponding bombardier passenger cars ... which to me look different and unusual.  Perhaps it's been offered before but it is new to me.  I like the Traxx and Taurus on the european side.  Well surprise, these all look similar...   The longer american freight engine I like because at 19.5" ... it's longer than my SD70ace.

Btw someone posted above about control systems.  I have both.  One I bought new, the other used.  Something like colgate and crest... they both work & do about the same thing, flavors very a little, packaging, ...

And just to round it all out:  it's on my x-mas wish list to get a DCC control system...

That is one of the big reasons I'm not interested in it. It's the wrong colors for that headlight placement.

Besides, I'd prefer it's current scheme.

I think I will get the R&N coaches though, for the custom 425 I want to do.

This is what I have to get eventually.
