I brought my GG1 inside to catch up on some repairs. I noticed that the pantographs weren't working fully last year. I set the engine down and noticed a piece of rubber fell off that I didn't know where it came from.
After taking off the shell and removing the pantograph's motor plate, I knew what happened.
So I tried a couple of O rings I had laying here. I felt a slight bind in the large brass wheel when turning so I lubed it. I'm hoping these will work more reliably.

When I repaired mine, the o ring that was recommended (I forget what size at the moment, a 14 maybe) felt awfully tight and the pan gear seemed to resist quite a bit when turning by hand.
After putting everything back together, the pans worked perfectly. Those many tiny gears in the gearbox make the tiny motor very strong!
Maybe 212 or 214? (or metric?)
I just got an assortment. I will check on what fits better.

When I purchased my MTH P5A Boxcab, one of the Pantographs was not automatically going up and down with direction change. Upon taking the shell off and examining the pan mechanism, I found the O ring was broken. I did not have another O ring, but, I do save old traction tires. I located one of similar size and installed it in place of the O ring and reassembled the locomotive.
It worked well over a year ago and still works well.
