I am currently evaluating the accuracy of these cars for use behind my NYC Super J3a and dual purpose L-3a Mohawk as a generic train. Previously I had simply skipped over them as an option, my main hang-up was the porthole windows in the baggage and combine cars which are mostly incorrect for NYC. However, I just found a picture of the latest release of these cars from 2005 (20-4071) and they actually have more correct window styles in those doors. Does anyone know for sure if this is the only release of the cars with the windows corrected? Perhaps having a photo thread would help?

Its pretty safe to assume all the cars in this set match. The RPO does for sure and I would expect the Combine to match also. MTH redesigned the later cars so the doors fit into a slot in the floor rather than tracks mounted to the insides of the car side. Thats why the door with the rectangular windows is taller.

I used the later door to make copies for use in the earlier cars. Micro Mark has the materials to do this.

That's what I thought Pete. I actually opted to have 5344 represented in 3 of its 4 incarnations on my roster. Early (K-Line), Commodore Vanderbilt (Lionel 18063), and Late (modified Lionel 18056). The only one missing is when it was shrouded in the Dreyfus style for Mercury service; no one has made that one yet.
