My Dad (75) came by my house today. I had the garage open running the trains. He had not seen this layout I had started in Jan 2012. He asked what club I was in and I laughed and said "around here I am the club". He bought us a Tyco HO setup when we were too young to do much with it. When I was about 11 he put a 4x8 platform on the pool table and built me a loop on cork roadbed with a siding and that is what got me started. He never did anything else with trains. It was great, cause he had a big smile when he saw the trains today - that's the toy from his generation.
