My PIKO BR 24

This engine was 100% manufactured in Germany.

BR is an abbreviation for Baureihe which is German for "class". The BR 24's were used on the Deutsche Reichsbahn entering service in 1928, and were nicknamed "Steppe Horses" because they were considered reliable, strong and versatile.

The handsome BR 24 prototype developed 900 HP, which was adequate for the rolling stock of the period.

PIKO, quality manufactured in Germany, has a wide range of models  including some US prototypes.

The six-wheel tender is nicely done and has stainless steel rim wheels. It's digital ready with mounts for both a sound module and speaker unit plus  the digital module. The engine comes with the electronic drawbar connection even if just run analog as I do.

In German, a steam loco is known as a dampflok, and one with a tender is a schleppetender dampflok, and a locomotive engineer is known as a lokfuehrer.

Hope my BR 24 might inspire some forum folks to consider German full gauge prototypes in G scale!

Any other PIKO German prototype fans out there? According to PIKO, the digital sound module for the BR 24 has the actual loco sounds. Unfortunately, this sound module only works with digital operation, and I operate strictly analog.

From the lack of response to this thread, I guess most G gaugers here are into US prototypes rather than European or German models and that is OK! The PIKO BR 24 is an appealing, nicely proportioned loco with handsome large drive wheels and a joy to behold pulling three OBB (Austrian) LGB 3062 coaches and an LGB 3019 postal/baggage van on the rear! I started in LGB with the European models and was hooked. All my LGB locos are Austrian, German or Swiss!

I believe I will cease posting on the HONGZ forum as it appears there is little interest in European G scale models. I will, however, continue to READ the fine posts here by several regular posters. :-)
