The cars are "O" gauge. They are 2 passenger cars and an observation car. They are metal. Centered above the windows it reads MTH LINES in yellow type. The car numbers are 703, 704 and 705. The color is reddish on the sides and a rust color on the top. The interesting feature is that there is a metal shroud covering the sides and the top of the gaps between the cars (as though they are articulated.) Can anyone tell me what they are called, the model number and when they were made?

OK. I will post it there but I didn't know it was tin plate.
It is an MTH reproduction of a Lionel "Rail Chief" set from the 1930's. The cars are modeled after the Union Pacific M10000 streamliner. When Lionel marketed the original set, it was intended to go behind a scale 700E Hudson, although the cars are actually a bit small in proportion to that engine.
