Mike,

No No you can run your conventionals with your DCS and it is seriously cool.

If you do not want to run on the same tracks set up a dual level layout.  I always recommend the Z4K Transformer with the side receiver, however the Trx option on the

DCS hand held remote, makes it possible also.  Heck I can even run Lionel Conventional Tin Plate and MTH P2 Tin Plate on the same tracks if I want too, a way cool option.

No need for shelf queens with a full DCS layout.

MTH P2 263E on the left, Conventional 259E on the right running at the same time.

Dave,

Oh no, believe me, I will be running them.  It will be wired so that conventional or command can run on either track.  I already have my wiring diagram and everything else (thanks to a fellow forum member).

My point is that my enjoyment for command will push the post war aside.  I was going to load up my yard tracks with my post war engines, but instead will be putting my other command engines on those tracks (since I have enough now).

In fact, after much experimentation, I've found the only way I can run my PS1 Gas Turbine set smoothly is by powering the TIU Variable 1 channel with my Lionel ZW set to 15V, and then using the DCS remote for throttle, direction, bell, and whistle control. (I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bell and whistle buttons worked exactly as they should. Good job, MTH!)

At first I worried a bit about powering older trains through the variable channel, but I shouldn't have. I've run my Dad's pre-war Lionel and Marx through it as well, and it works beautifully. Enjoy!
