What color were the steam chests and valve linkage areas of the 20th Century painted - black, or a very dark gray/green?  Were the pilot truck, side frames of the the trailing truck, and tender truck side frames that same color or different?  I am interested particularly in the 5445 (with two 3-axle trucks, not the caterpillar truck, on the tender).  Thank you.

These were a dark gray, but not sure if it was the exact same shade as used on the upper portion of the chooch.  Seems there was a reference to one of the streamliners  with black cylinder jackets...but if that was accurate, it had to be a real rarity.    It's times like this that you really miss Bill "Wee Willy" Herrmann, the world's biggest Central fan.  Back in the day, when Graham Claytor needed some Central knowledge tidbit, he didn't call Big Al Perlman...but rather MR. Herrmann !
