Perhaps a more prototypical California Zephyr.
Just a quick California Zephyr excursion around Paradise, CA. Imagine the California Zephyr being pulled by Western Pacific F7 ABA #918 set leaving from Paradise, CA, then around Butt Valley Lake, through the town of Oroville, around the James Horseshoe, up the Feather River Canyon, over Oroville Lake, around Williams Loop, over the Keddie Wye, and on to Portola, CA. Once we arrive at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola, the Zephyr turns around in a loop at the Museum and returns to Paradise via the same route! What a great ride that would be!
The big fantasy part of the excursion would be Paradise, CA to Oroville, CA, as there ain't no railroad between those two cities! However, there is a railroad between Oroville and Portola, it's owned and operated by Union Pacific, and BNSF has trackage rights. Unfortunately, I've never been on a train through the Feather River Canyon, but I have driven through it dozens of times on Highway 70.
And here's the video.
