I'm visiting my family for Christmas and had to make a run to the local Post Office and saw something I wanted to share. I've been in it umpteen times over the years, and never saw this amazing old plat map on the wall. The town was officially incorporated in 1905 but there are no year markings. I'd venture that this is probably from the 40s or 50s based off the names on the map and the fact it was before route 711, was renamed 201. The coolest part of this map are some of the historical rail line / trolley line markings.
It may be somewhat hard to see, but there Pittsburgh, McKeesport, and Youghiogheny Railroad (leased subsidiary of the P&LE) is listed on the map. My mom always mentioned that when she was growing up, she'd wave to the engineers running on the line behind her house. They used to service 3 mines and a slag dump in our town, the Nellie, Paul, and Clarissa (two of which are named on the branch lines). This branch would've connected to the P&LE yard in Dickerson Run.
Also, for all of you trolley buffs, the West Penn Street Railway is listed on here. Either the plat map is wrong or I'm wrong, but it has the trolley running down Pennsylvania Ave. I have always been told it ran behind Pittsburgh Street.
Now my question is, would the P,McK,&Y have run their own lettered engines? I know they had their own rolling stock (and it was lettered for the New York Central Lines), but didn't know if there were any engines with those markings later on or not.
