That looks good.  From all the masking with newsprint I take it that the paint was in a spray can?

Brad: I had similar idea and I just ordered that gray textured Rustoleum spray paint from Amazon today because neither the local Home Depot nor Lowe's had the color.  I use tubular track also, and I was going to do the same thing, except I was thinking about using the Woodlands Scenic rubber roadbed and then painting it.  But your idea may be a lot cheaper and look just as good! Please post some more pictures once you take the paper off and put the track on it.  My layout will be 10 x 8.  What size platform are you using?

Hey I like that! I'd like to know how they get all those tiny "textures" to fit spraying outta that tiny nozzle  I've tried various spray paints for my N scale as most ballasting always seems too large, out of scale and tedious.

Nice technique....looks great as does the layout. 

We just used that same paint on a concrete (plywood) arch bridge. Decent n' quick.

Looks like you can order the textured paint from Wally World, too.

I wish I would have thought of spray paint! I have been doing mine with one of those throw away paint sponges.

Here is how it looks with the track put down. I  add wooden ties to give it a more finished look.
