Shouldn’t the grab irons be white on the B&A and yellow on the NYC— I guess they can be popped off and painted

They weren’t painted yellow until about 1940, and at that time there were some other changes that the New York Central forced upon them. We’ve done a model that is as built from the Oswego shops in 1916. I may be a little bit selfish, but we didn’t want them to be just a re-brand of what our other custom run was going to look like. Which is a replica of the chapter caboose at the New York State Fairgrounds. Other changes that will happen later in life, would be black roof and the NYCS oval. Our research indicates that they stay this way at least through 1924,  What is called a dip scheme. One of the biggest things we found in our research was that the Boston i& Albany had them delivered unlettered, and purposely made their stencil 1 inch larger than the standard NYC lettering drawings of the time.

Thanks!

Thanks for the Info Mario!! Looking forward to receiving them— thanks for doing this project! What is the other custom run you mentioned?

Phil @JR Junction Train & Hobby also did our Central NY Chapter caboose, also from the same era and built at the NYC’s Oswego shops, as you can tell by the horizontal grab irons on the ends. As far as we can tell, Oswego was the only shop to build them this way and we’re used to hold on while hanging the rear markers.

He’s done the Rochester Museum’s caboose, as well.

Email me from my profile and I’ll share the photos we purchased for reference as to the painting of the B&A cabooses.

Thanks!

Phil called me a bit ago to let me know my order was in. Since I'm at work, I couldn't give info over the phone so I shot him a reply back to my order confirmation.

@JR Junction Train & Hobby

I just have to make sure it got through on Phil's end.

Ditto, took several tries to get through.  I couldn't resist and up my order.  Should have them by this weekend.  Time for a video.  B&A berks double headed with Caboose galore in the rear.

Turn that frown upside down.

@Dave Olson regarding the A5, will the tooling be updated to make this a highly detailed model consistent with other legacy locomotives, rather than the previous incarnations with very little added on detail?

Thanks for the update on the Berk Dave. I can't wait to see what the Mr. Muffin's A1 Berk run is like. I wonder if when you get some of the samples would you have a highlight of it on Demos with Dave? I guess we will see. Hope all is well.

I ordered all 4 offerings. Got the shipping/tracking info, so that should arrive most likely next week for me since it is Thursday already. I really doubt it would be able to be here by Saturday.

Yeah, Phil was definitely busy getting all the orders shipped out. Late last night he emailed me back which wasn't a surprise considering how busy all these cabooses would make him besides whatever else he had going on. I will have to wait like I said, but will be one happy railroader when all four arrive. It'll be my first B&A cabooses too boot.

You don't mean the photos on page 5 right Rick? You're saying on another topic altogether?

I could be mistaken, I thought there were more full photos of the NYC version but that caboose is sharp.

I especially like the lantern detail improvement.

I have a couple of the original MTH offerings, but these are even better. I might have to grab the pair.

I’ll just post them here… all good stuff!

Mario, you devil. I wish there was more of them to buy, but having bought all four offerings, what am I supposed to do, lol.

I’m not putting words in anyone’s mouth, but I will say that I wouldn’t be surprised more numbers if MTH were to do another run.

Thanks for your support! It proves that we have to stick together and support our local hobby shops to get more successful custom runs.
