Hello everyone,

Fellow forum member Mike R gave this operating Lionel hot box reefer car to me at our open house, this past August. I finally got the chance to take it out of the box and give it a try. The siren is bit repetitious but it can be easily switched off, other than that it's a pretty nice accessory.  A big thank you to Mike R

The video might get you a bit dizzy, because the only way to see the full action of this accessory is to move it back and fourth.

Thanks for looking, enjoy!!!!

Alex

Thanks for sharing Alex.

Yeah this one I have mixed reviews about... is that a siren or is that the wheel squeek?

I thought about purchasing it but thought twice when I realize even my vision line cattle car mostly remains in the off position.

I think the break down B unit is probably more my speed...

Pretty neat, I got the same effect when I accidently parked a passenger car across to closed blocks of different voltage. All the passenger car did though was smolder as the wiring fried. At least you get the benefit of sounds and simulated flames. Yep pretty cool; if your gonna burn something up at least have some flames to enjoy the effects, an explosion and debris flying through the air is fun too.

Alex, you are right, that the audio effect can be quite annoying but keep in mind the sounds you hear are not a siren but are supposed to simulate the sounds of a seized up spindle/wheel bearing.  This does not make it less annoying, however.  I like this accessory but in small doses.

Good morning all,

Thanks for the nice comments and input. With that being said, I'm LMAO reading all your posts

because I feel the same way. When I was shooting this video my wife was yelling from upstairs

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SOUND. The sound is just ear piercing, she kept yelling SHUT THAT THING OFF. I'm wondering why Mike R gave it to me LOL (JUST KIDDING). It really is a nice accessory minus the squeaking sound.

Ben, I can just picture you walking over to the guys booth with a hammer. Hey guy you wanna shut that thing off before I smash it. Your post had me rolling on the floor. If you Vinny and me were there, we would have flipped the guys table over. LOL.

A big shout out to Mike R for giving me this accessory (THANKS MIKE) LOL LOL

With this all being said, anybody interested in purchasing it

Thanks,

Alex

But I guess adding a few more speakers might be crossing the line!

Dennis,

I was thinking of two Fat boy speakers with a bass booster amp LOL LOL

All jokes aside, it is a nice accessory

Wife heard the screeching while I was playing the video, asked whats going on, what are I was watching. I showed her, and told her that's neat, and the special effect that goes with it. She told me if I got one, not to play it, if I did, to say good bye to my train room and think about putting it back into the spare bedroom it was.

I have a couple of these converted to TMCC, makes them much more useful on command layouts.  It's not something you want going off all the time, but on demand it's pretty cool.

I figure I'll put the guts of one in a PFE Reefer behind the new Big Boy and use it at shows.  It's nice to introduce a new action at random for the folks watching. Harry Henning III put his in a scale Reefer, looks just like all the other scale cars until the sounds start.

I know I was joking around above, but John you're right. This does happen to be a very nice

accessory, like you and the guys said above. If it had TMCC it would be great, the more I try it the more I like it.

Thanks, never fired mine up yet but still want to add the ERR Module so I can activate it via the CAB2.

One of the members of our old modular group purchased these [all road names available] when they went on blowout years ago and ran them on the modular lay-out. Running one it would get about 2/3rds around before you would have to stop it, according to it's recording. It "DID" get annoying after awhile! At one time he ran all 4(?) at once; what a smoke storm!

I do like the accessory and when I have the money and I can find one in the Santafe livery, I would like one to run with my [K-Line] Map Reefer Unit Train [it will have to have TMCC added though].

I'm glad everyone got a kick out of this accessory.

I got it new when I owned my hobby shop. I also took home the Santa Fe model. The one I gave Alex was only on the track once on a loop of 0-63 track I had under my Christmas tree one year. I ran it once with the sound on and that was it. Lol!! I like how the smoke intensifies the longer the wheel bearing squeak. The sound can get annoying but it does have an on/off switch.

I really liked reading all the comments. They were all very amusing to say the least.

Ben...I think if I had to listen to it all day the guy would've went "TO THE MOON!!"

Thanks
Mike R
