Good evening!

I received my new Lionel ZW-L this afternoon.  Out of the box, the right handle moves very smoothly and feels solid.  The left handle moves in a "jerky", ""sticky" manner and feels loose - that is, it will rotate slightly (with more force than the right handle requires) and the voltage reading does not change.  I am considering sending it back, but was wondering if anyone else had this issue and what the remedy was for it.  I purchased it from a reputable dealer here on the forum.  The readings on all of the channels are around 18.6 volts with no load - simply using the meter on the outputs.

I seem to remember one of my ZW-C's having a sticky handle and it required some tightening inside the cover.  That resolved the problem, but it was an older transformer.  This is brand new and I am not sure I want to spend my first day with it opening it up and diagnosing an issue.

Looking for some thoughts ...

Thanks,

Dennis

The outside handles (A and D) do change the voltage (from 0 to 18.6).  It is just that there is a noticeable difference in the rotation of the right handle versus the left hand hand.  I would guess the left handle is loose or something may be bent inside the transformer.  I am not keen on repairing something that I just bought, especially at that price!  But if it is a quick fix, that is easier than sending it back.

Not sure it helps but I have 2 ZW-L's and both have perfectly smooth operating handles on both sides.

It may not actually affect anything as far as operation, but just because they are so expensive, a reputable dealer would exchange it for you.

These are rock solid, just sounds like you got one of the rare ones with a slight issue.  If I were in that situation I would be exchanging it.
