Question about New Lionel ZW-L

If the handle doesn't change the voltage, take it back.

The outside handles (A and D) do change the voltage (from 0 to 18.6).  It is just that there is a noticeable difference in the rotation of the right handle versus the left hand hand.  I would guess the left handle is loose or something may be bent inside the transformer.  I am not keen on repairing something that I just bought, especially at that price!  But if it is a quick fix, that is easier than sending it back.

Yep, the sticking point is, without opening it up, it's hard to say what it's going to take to fix it.

I think your going to have to be your own judge as to what to do. Mine as I recall doesn't have a  issue like that and the unfortunate thing is idk if anyone works on these transformers other than Lionel, at the same time I haven't heard of really any issues with them. They are typically a solid transformer that RARELY needs worked on. 

Sounds like an exchange is the only way to go.  No need to mess with a new product with a glitch in my view.  Shipping is probably expensive for this product, so I can see why you'd like to avoid that, in all likelihood.

Not sure it helps but I have 2 ZW-L's and both have perfectly smooth operating handles on both sides.

It may not actually affect anything as far as operation, but just because they are so expensive, a reputable dealer would exchange it for you.

These are rock solid, just sounds like you got one of the rare ones with a slight issue.  If I were in that situation I would be exchanging it.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.  My layout is under construction right now, so I have the time to send it back.  I know things like this happen, but there are many more important priorities !
