Can you tell me how long the switch is, measuring along the entire straight side? I used SCARM software to print the part full size. It is 10 inches long. But when I look at the parts on line it appears that there are 32 ties, making the overall length 14 1/4". So which is correct? Thanks!!

I'm guessing you're talking about the Atlas switches. I purchased one a few years ago and it was 10" on the straight side. It came with an extra 4.5" straight piece attached which made the total 14.5". If you look carefully at the online pictures you can see the joint where the 4.5" piece is attached to the end of the straight leg of the switch.
I thought that's what it looked like, but wasn't sure. Thanks so much. That is exactly what I wanted to know!

johnf is exactly right. The very first run ot Atlas O 054L & R switches used the straight leg of 14 1/2". All later runs were changed to one full 10" and one section of 4 1/2". Major reason to allow closer spacing when designing yard ladder track . The option is there by removing the 4 1/2" or keeping it in place etc.
Well, that makes sense. Thank you!
I found that out the hard way- I bought 4 054 switches with the 14" straight leg, and had to cut them down to 10 1/2" to get a yard ladder with 4" centers. The yard can handle diesels and some steam, but not big articulated that need 072 curves. But it can fit in tight spaces- a 4 track yard only needs a 16" wide shelf.
