I caught this show the other night on a station called "Destination America". It shows the challenges of railroad

operations in wintertime Alaska. The train movements were very interesting, but I really liked the story of the

"offgridders". These people live in the wilderness. They have to work hard every day to survive and the railroad

is their only link to civilization. If they miss a pickup, it could be a week or more for the next train. However, the

passenger train stops for anyone waiting near the tracks. Did I mention the average temp around 0 degrees and

3 feet of snow? Brrrrrrr! Not for me but a show worth watching!          Mike

There's been a couple discussions on it already.

While it's not nearly as contrived as other "reality" shows, there's an excess of drama in the presentation.

Just for once I'd like to come back from a commercial break to see someone being mauled by a bear, or a train plummeting off a cliff... They always lead into a commercial with some big dramatic moment, and when they return, nothing happens!

I know it's all for the benefit of the "masses," not for people immerse themselves in trains and railroad operations, or even someone with a modicum of mechanical aptitude. But jeesh... How many times do you think even the dumbest bag of hammers is going to believe something bad will happen after the commercial break?

I mean the worst thing that happened is one of the "stars" of the show, a rail boss regularly featured in the first few episodes, got laid off.
