Neat movie before digital, etc, effects. David Janssen. Wonder, did they destroy the engine and passenger cars? Looks real and not like a model.

I think I once Googled "Ring of Fire" images, and got pictures of the site as of a couple years ago.
Gomez Addams would be beaming! Here's one site:

At first glance I would say some model scenes and well-placed gas burners mixed with actual footage. I would say the law of unintended consequences got the film-makers a little and they had to do some pretty good editing.

Thanks for the site, may visit it this summer. Wonder what condition the engine was in before the destroyed it?
Remember watching it years ago, yes it was cheesy but fun.
Been searching for the DVD/VCR since this thread started but no luck. Anyone have a lead?

I don't live all that far from the site, but its so remote that even the local train fans don't even try going out there. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "middle of nowhere." I have only ever talked with one person who has gone all the way and he said at the time, you couldn't climb down to the rolling stock without risk of serious injury.
That said, this is one of those places that was rumored for years and nobody took it seriously until some people went out there many years back and confirmed, yes, it's all still there.
This link has a lot of good info and photos of the site: http://www.brian894x4.com/RingofFire.html

I believe its still available from TCM direct. I bought a copy last year. They make them to order. We watched it last night on TCM when they showed it again.
Little known fact:
The locomotive and passenger cars were expendable, the tender wasn't. A bulldozer pulled the tender off the trestle before the collapse. The trestle was prepared in advance to collapse and was also pulled down with bulldozers and cables.
