I recently picked up a Lionel diesel engine 6-18289) (6-21790) built-in 2003, which I want to check the motor gearbox for grease.  My problem is that I am not able to remove the screw that holds the motor to the truck, because the pickup/collector is blocking the access to the screw.

Any suggestions on how to gain access to the screw that holds the motor to the truck?

Thanks,

If this is like some of the Lionel trucks from that vintage, you have to disassemble a bunch of stuff to get it apart!  You have to remove screws from the top in order to remove the motor and it's mount, then the truck will drop.  The fun part is the gears also fall out, makes it somewhat of a PITA to work on these.   That's what it looks like from the pictures on Lionel.  The screw at the top of the indicated motor mounts needs to come out.  Part #59 that comes free gives a clue that this is the split truck, otherwise you couldn't get that wheel set out.
