Steam on the Pokey.  Despite all plans that the Southern 630 ferry move would operate from Bluefield, WV to Grundy, VA via Richlands, at the last minute, Norfolk Southern re-routed the special up the Norfolk & Western mainline out of Bluefield.  Here, we find the 630 soaring high above the town of Coopers, WV on the morning of April 9, 2014 as she crosses over the abandoned Bluestone branch and passes through this classic N&W scene.

Thanks for posting this pic! I've been visiting Bluefield and the Pokey region every November for the past 5 years or so (my mom grew up in Maybeury in the 30's & 40's). My grandparents house was just across the hollow from the re-routed mainline after the new Elkhorn tunnel was built. As young boys my brother & I would try to count the cars on the coal drags heading up the grade. I always make a point of stopping at Coopers, the trestle is awesome!
