Thanks for stoking the boilers Arnold, That is a handsome Commodore Vanderbilt.
My entry this morning is a Lionel conventional 2-8-2, 6-8309 Southern RR. It’s a very brief video, l just ran it around the loop to check it out. It’s going back in the box and off to the painter. It’s a donor engine to become NH 3025.

New Haven 0-8-0 #3400 (MTH 20-3148-2, scale wheels, 2005), a favorite that’s usually parked on a siding on my layout, was to be my switcher for this Saturday, so I began to take photos and videos. A few minutes later, it stopped abruptly and wouldn’t move. It’s now on its way back from repair. A simple fix.

Hello StDaySun people!  The nod today goes to Arnold for motivating me to feature a New York Central locomotive I haven’t posted recently.  

It’s my Lionel 4-8-2 Mohawk.  To me, only the mighty Hudson says “NYC” more than a Mohawk.  I bought it from a friend “for a song”  because he prefers more modern engines.

I believe this engine dates to about 1990 and was equipped with an early Lionel sound system, “the mighty sound of steam”.  It has a piston smoke unit with one chuff per revolution and a venerable “Pullmor” motor.  It runs well (despite a fall to the floor with little damage!), smokes well after a little TLC to the smoke unit and has a rather haunting whistle.  I’ll post a video with whistle sound at a later date when I’m home.

PW Lionel Prairie Type, the Burlington Route purchased this style loco, their plan was to run these steamers through the farms and fields of the Midwestern prairies, thus 2-6-2's were dubbed Prairies. Over a 1,000 were built for several railroads, most larger railroads shied away from them due to early balancing issues. the 2-8-2 Mikado's began to replace The Prairie Locomotives. In the world of Lionel the Prairie name started in the prewar era with the 224 and 1666 loco both having 2-6-2. From 50 through 1969, all prairies carried the 2-6-4 wheel arrangement solely because the body remained unchanged, the 2026 did use 2-6-2 from 48-49
