Hi I have an FM Locomotive that I am trying to convert to PS 3 I have loaded the board with the right DCS files but it will only work in conventional mode when I place it in my programming track with no other engines and apply power to try to load it in my remote it will only turn conventional.I reset it to factory settings with one horn blast followed by five bells everything works ok but ie refuses to go DCS even with the proper switch in any of the two positions I need HELP

I'm assuming you're using the PS/3 diesel board, right? Just curious, how did you load the board with the right files if you can't get it working in DCS mode?
First off, make SURE you have jumpered the DCS/DCC connections to make sure the board is in DCS mode when powered up. Next, make sure that any wires go over the supercaps and not right across the top of the PS/3 board, that can cause DCS issues.

Thanks a lot John
A friend of mine sent me the board already loaded with the FM file, something I noticed in my harness is that the usual two black wires that are located at the end of each row are not the usual black wires that go to the dcc/DCS switch? I appreciate Your help a lot as always.Thank You very much.

That wiring diagram should be accurate, so if you see anything that doesn't match, let's talk about it.
Must have those 2 wires and they must be attached to each other for DCS mode if not using switch. G
These are the two wires but one is gray and the other is black and both go to the switch maybe the switch is bad I will test for connectivity on both thanks a lot I will keep You posted,I am sending pics
best regards to both of You.

Are they at the edge of the 40 pin connector? Pin 1 and 40? If a break in one wire or a defective switch, that could be the issue. G
Well friends I tested the switch and guess what ? I does not work properly,I went on and cut the two wires together and isolated the with some shrink tube, placed the engine on programming track it showed in my remote after a short while and yes it is working as it should now.
this is the fist time that I have had a problem with a switch but every thing is working great thanks to all the nice and helpful people in this great forum thanks a lot to all and God bless You all
best regards
Jorge
Truthfully, I've had many issues with the cheap slide switches that MTH and Lionel use for functions, so it's not at all surprising that you have a bad one.
I too had these switch problems. A few were cured by simply rocking them back and forth several times.
I personally don't deal with the bad switch I agree with GGG n jumper out the switch solder n tape!

My most frequent switch mod is to lose the 3-rail/2-rail switch, having a 5 cent switch carry track power to the engine is a recipe for failure! I've lost count of the times this has been an issue with the MTH engines. Green lines are connections after removing switch.
