I have been using Lionel oil for quite some time and it has generally worked well until the blue comet came to my pike. The squeaking was bad and no amount of Lionel oil would solve it. I switched to a light penetrating gun oil but to no avail. I detected a slight improvement and finally went for the gold. A full on super penetrating oil "Tri-flow". One drop problem gone. Boy is that nice. Question: Do you guys use a true penetrating oil? I am thinking of switching.

What part was squeaking?
The eccentric assembly. I think thats what you call it
thank you for the heads up. My Southern Crescent squeaks (from the area i think you are talking about, too) no matter what I do. Going to try some Tri-flow. . .
My Blue Comet is squeak free so far, but out of the box, I did the full lubrication recommended by Lionel along with priming the smoke units. It also went back to Lionel for the whistle upgrade and I know they added graphite to the rear coupler on the tender. For a while, every time I fired it when I got it back, it produced a little cloud of dust which was kind of cool. After the third time, it was dust free.
If I get a squeak that my labelle can't handle, I'll give tri-flow a shot.
are there any issues with tri-flow (like bad for plastic)?
