It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's 2 year anniversary SWSAT you should really go take a look, it was a ton of fun!
https://ogrforum.com/t...two-year-anniversary

I think this was the 2nd or 3rd highest amount of SWSAT "replies" since we started this little thing, what a great set of pics/posts/videos/etc. A special shoutout to those of you who have been doing this "all along" with me, as well as a thanks to Patrick @trumpettrain who continued the "Switcher Love" throughout the week!

This week at the Murnane house we still have NYC #8244 on switching duty, what a great addition to the collection. Although my daughter has a LionChief RTR set for a year or two years now, this is my first LioneChief+ locomotive and it's been spending a ton of time on my little workbench layout and yard. I'm really enjoying the coupling/uncoupling much more on this than the "old" way of doing it via the tracks.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and gets a chance to post some switcher stuff here! There's a few shows here in Maryland this weekend (one at the B&O Museum today/tomorrow I'm going to try to get to tomorrow with a neighbor, another in Annapolis tomorrow).

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Yay! SWSat is On!

Last weeks turn out was great!  Thank you so much for keeping or little community  on the rails for two years Rich.

Peter I love that S Motor. That has been on my wish list for years and it seems that Lionel has overhear my mutterings and it has returned to the catalog. Very nice.

SIRT I do always like your posts and great modeling. I'm glad you have rejoined us here

Yesterday I had a rare day off of work and the weather was so unseasonable I went for an eight mile somewhat adventurous walk in the South Bronx. I finally made it over to Oak Point yard and explored around Hunts Point and the Bronx River area as well. Of course any pics are on my phone so I may come back and update my post. I know Tom P likes those abandoned urban stations and I found a few of those.

To start out with model pics my Lionel RS11 is still on the layout so I'm starting with that. For some reason there are lots of lens flairs this AM.

Atlas O announced in October 2006 that it would produce a die-cast model of a USRA 0-6-0 steam switcher. It was expected to reach the market in November 2007 at a list price of $649 for the 3-rail version with TMCC. My model of Central Railroad of New Jersey #107 is highly detailed and has never been run.

The full scale engine had 51” diameter driving wheels, operated at a boiler pressure of 190 psi, weighed 165,000 pounds, and produced a tractive force of 39,100 pounds. The price new in 1918 was $36,000.

So here are a bunch of pics from Oak Point Yard in the South Bronx.

First up is the Juntion tower that used to connect the Port Morris (ex NYC) line that connected Spyten Dyvel line to Oak Point (exNH) the old line lead is the track coming up from the lower left.

This is the Oak Point Yard Office

This is the refuel area  if you look behind the GP38-2 there is an old Caboose  now a shoving platform to serve the long shove Hunts Point Food market. Oak Point has two ex Cabooses  the most in one place I've seen working in 20 years. There are a pair of Gensets that usually work here but I keep missing them.

These SD40-2s are the overnight run in power down the Hudson over Metro North.

Ex NH Westchester Ave Station nice station in very bad shape. I love the colored terra cotta designs.

Oh hey fearless scary raccoon out in the daytime

There is a great new(er) Park called Concrete Plant  Park that has a great vantage of the station and NEC  the Hunts Point line connection is right there as well all right on the Bronx River.

So there is my short South Bronx Train Tour.

I will have to expand my layout from an 0-36 circle to 0-54 and also buy another transformer in order to run my new 0-6-0. Until then, this locomotive can only pose for photos. Espee No. 1277 was based in San Francisco and used to put together passenger trains. MTH No. 730 has now traveled along the Russian River a scale 2600 miles. This is redwood country but so far I haven’t added a single redwood tree to my layout--a scale tree will stand a good two feet above the track. With the layout being enlarged, I should have room for a group of three or four of these stately, but really big, trees.

Good morning switcher friends!!  Today we begin the journey into year 3 of Switcher Saturday!!!

Wonderful and interesting posts so far this morning!

Rich - I love that ALCO RS.  They are cool looking locos.  Always wanted one since I first saw the first Lionel model in the 1950s in a dept store.  I've been in love with them ever since.  About 8 years ago I got a great deal on a Washington Terminal RS 1 by Atlas O, however, it had problems, and Atlas could never get it corrected so the retailer let me trade it for a Pennsy Aero Train set.... of which I love as well.  One of these days I may come across another great deal on an RS which I won't refuse.  Also thanks for the train show reminder at B&0 museum this weekend.  I may show up tomorrow too.  Perhaps our paths will cross :-)IMG_2273IMG_2271IMG_2272IMG_2263IMG_2256IMG_2264IMG_2265IMG_2266IMG_2267IMG_2268IMG_2269IMG_2270IMG_2254IMG_2257

Peter-  I love that S2!  Its probably pulling a commuter train?

SIRT- Love the RR overpass scene.WOW!!!

MELGAR -great shot of 0-6--0 on trestle!!

RPMCOBRA- I love the Ma&PA as well.  Nice photo!

Mike CT- nice showing of Red, White, and Blue!!!

MNCW - Nice photo of your postwar switcher.  She has character!! Love it!

Silver Lake - Love the RS11!!!  It's on my wish list.  Also thanks so much for detailed Bronx yard tour! WOW!!!  What a wonderful way to spend a February spring day!!

Here are some photos of a B&O Plymouth doing some industrial switching at the Brewery in Patsburg and some switching work by a Patapsco and Back Rivers VO1000 on the Free State Junction Railway.  Have a great and wonderfully creative weekend everyone!!

That CNW "Streamliners" paint scheme has to be one of the most striking and attractive color schemes ever applied to switchers and hood units. It captured my imagination way back in 1962 when I opened that large and mysterious package under the Christmas tree to find this:

MySet1

I've since admired the scheme and as said, I think it is one of the most striking schemes to ever grace the lowly switchers and hood units of the railroading world.

May I suggest you head for your local bookstore and pick up a new magazine (from RMC) called HO Collector. Their first issue is about Lindberg HO.

Got my copy at Barnes and Noble (Akron Ohio), nine bucks but worth it.

Thanks for the heads-up Lou!  I went to RMC's website and ordered a copy of "HO Collector" from them!

Lindberg is the only vintage HO I've semi-seriously collected.  So, yup, I kind'a like Lindberg Lines. Here's a pic of some of my Lindberg SW's:
