It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT you should really go take a look, it was a ton of fun!

This week at the Murnane house...
The RiCHY (Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Yard) has NYC #8244 (Lionel LionChief #6-38779) working hard today. I kinda gave up on figuring out the TMCC issues I was having with my B&O #9416 SW900 and my new-to-me CAB-1, I'll circle back to it in a week or two, I just needed a break from "figuring things out".

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and gets a chance to post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Yay SWSat is on!

We are off to a great start this week. I like that RS3 Rich. Does it have remote couplers? That is one of the best features on the LCPlus engines. I have been tempted by the cigar band RS3 in the small set that is out now but the couplers are not powered on that one. It is just LC I guess. Still thinking on it though.

This week I  am posting mostly pictures from my club the New York Society of Model Engineers in Carlstat, NJ. Today is the first day in three weekends of our Spring open house show. If you find yourself in the area swing by.

Some very nice photos of handsome trains posted again this week. On my layout, the sun has never set on the Southern Pacific Railroad. San Francisco painted lady No. 1277 was used by Espee to assemble the Coast Daylight and other passenger trains. On my Russian River Rapids Shortline Railroad, though, she pulls excursion trains to the delight of rail fans.

Happy SWSat Everyone!

No new work in the yards this week. Started a home improvement project so the trains are on the back burner for now

Didn't slow down my surfing of the auction sites though.   Found this nice little Lionel MPC 0-4-0 die-cast switcher for ONLY $25.00. Too good a deal to pass up. It needs a little TLC, the tether wire and the light in the tender are broken and the motor is missing a pick-up roller. I put it on the track and it runs well.

Added bonus is the PRR flag on it- since I have  a lot of Pensy power and rolling stock it will fit right in.
Here are a few photos from the auction site.

My Atlas O model of Union Pacific SW9 diesel switcher locomotive 1875 is shown below with a K-Line model of UP wood caboose 3592.

The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors produced 786 SW9 locomotives between 1951 and 1953. They were equipped with an EMD 567B 12-cylinder engine which developed 1200 horsepower.

The EMD SW switcher was one of the first locomotive models made by Atlas O. It was first offered in 2001 and has subsequently been offered in many road names. I think this model was produced some years after that. When I returned to O gauge railroading 20 years ago, I began to purchase locomotives and rolling stock from many railroads – I bought whatever looked good and was interesting. Eventually, for reasons of cost and space, I became more selective and now limit my buying to New Haven Railroad and Amtrak prototypes. So, this UP model has never been run but occupies a prominent position on the shelf over my workbench. The old K-line caboose is an excellent model, too.

Have a good Switcher Saturday.

Good morning fellow SWSAT fans!  I love all the photos and information that you have shared today!  WOW!!

Here are some photos from the Free State Junction Railway in Patsburg, Md.   We have a Western Maryland BL2 ( No. 81 ) at the point of a WM two car passenger trains ( standard passenger train length on the WM ) and a Baltimore and Annapolis SW9 doing some switching lending a helping coupler to move/position the B&O big hook.  Have a wonderful and creative weekend everyone!!

I'm late to the party this week due to work (a college open house).

Here is my contribution, a beautiful B6sb #2015 operating in Queens, NY.  #2015 was built in 1924 (construction # 3844), by Juniata and scrapped in January 1950.  Rods down, coal in the tender...watch out for that LIRR third rail!

IMG_0171For today's pleasure the basement and carpet junction brings you a WBB GP-9, Norfolk Southern style.

We also bring a research project in exactly how long of a train will fit on the inner circle as currently laid out.  I think we hit the limit.

No apoligies for the camera work as all footage is subject to a 2 yr conductor sitting on the engineer's lap

Yes indeed! If I was alive (not born yet when it was scrapped) I would have given it a home, but I would need to add a few extra extensions to have it fit on my current workbench!

What a classic shot.  Is that photo available in a larger resolution so it can be studied a bit closer?  It's so easy to forget just how much the railroad scene has changed until a photo like that one above pops up.

It's the best I got......I found it on the internet on one of my many "doodling quests" to search whatever I can find on the NYO&W. When I am "on call', you really can't do anything involved. So, I spend my time on the net searching history, etc.
