In 1987, jazz musician Pat Metheny and his group released the album "Still Life (Talking)." One of the songs on the album is titled "Last Train Home." There are several different versions of the song, one of which is an extended track accompanied by a video featuring wonderful scenes of steam locomotives from a variety of international locations, some of which include Italy, Germany and South Africa. Of course, the U.S. is represented by some readily recognizable favorites. With its musical interpretation of steam locomotive exhaust, the song is hauntingly beautiful and, as a life-long enthusiast of railroading, I want this song playing when I pass on. Enjoy!

Extended versions of songs can be tough to find. I like listening to dance music and extended versions of many dance songs were released. Other than on YouTube, they are difficult to locate. I've found that when some albums are reissued, extended versions of certain songs will be included as a bonus.

The album version of "last Train Home" is almost six minutes and the video and song which usually aired on TV is almost four minutes. In fact, I've posted the standard video below. The UP 8444 is the only locomotive to appear in this version:

Did a quick search on both Amazon and iTunes and found 3 versions commercially available:

"Still Life (Talking)" album version - 5:38 long

Live version from album "The Road to You" - 5:19 long

Shorter version from album "One Quiet Night" - 4:35 long

For versions found only on YouTube videos, there are websites and software out there that enable you to download save both video and audio from YouTube and other videos.
