I received mine on Tuesday and the 3 layouts inside look and work great.

However, one of the front door knobs is missing and it appears that the trains on the back shelves are missing (see picture).

I reached out to Lionel to see if they could just send me the parts. They responded to my email immediately, but indicated that they didn’t have the parts and to return it to the dealer for an exchange.

Can someone please let me know if the shelves on the back of theirs have trains on them or if they’re supposed to be empty with holes in them.

I hate to bother the dealer with these minor imperfections.D445587E-73FA-46EC-8557-3F3E475A0E09

I agree with you not wanting to bother the dealer. I will say that yes there are supposed to be trains on the back shelves. This is true because if you look in the catalog it shows there being trains. Also, if you at this link to another recent hobby shop it shows trains or something else: https://www.lionel.com/product...e-hobby-shop-6-85294

Here’s a better link of a photo of the inside of this hobby shop. The photo I am talking about is the third one:

A great "heads up" on the missing parts.  I contacted my dealer about the problem in the hope that he can inspect them before shipping and avoid the exchange troubles down the road.

If they are all missing the trains, exchange is a moot point.  Unfortunately it looks like Lionel will be mailing out the parts.  While this is disappointing, it is minor and easily fixed with the parts.  Personally if I received one I would wait for Lionel to see what Their solution is.  I am not condoning that these are missing at all but in the large scheme of things this is a very easy fix for Lionel that should not require anyone sending them back.

I feel the same way. You would think that Lionel would pay more attention on the quality of this product especially since it was named after one of their employees. As well they spent two years on making it and saying that they were going to come in last year. In the end, I am a bit bummed about it not being “perfect” and latter today I am just going to give Lionel a bit of an ear ache.

I'm sorry to say but it seems like quality control is out the window these days, it more on quantity than quality, Quantity means more $$ but in the end lack of quality can mean lost of $$. This is something all need to pay attention to. Not just Lionel, This is a Lionel problem in this post but there's other post about lack of quality on the the other manufactures too.

Just got mine today and it did not have trains on the back shelves as well. The store ordered three of them and one of the other ones did not have the trains either. Well Lionel you did it agin. You really did it again.

Does that mean that one of them did have the trains or the store just didn't open all of them ?

Trying to figure out if this is a QC issue or did Lionel change the product from what was described/shown in the catalogue and didn't ship any with trains on the back shelves.

No, let me explain. There were three that came in yesterday. The manager, a good friend of mine, ordered one as well. This makes two of them taken and the other for the store. He opened his up and inside there was no trains on the back shelves. Just photos of what is supposed to be there behind the shelves. Next, I opened mine and the same thing. In the end, we did open the last one so I would say that there was supposed to be “ real” trains on the shelves but were not put on in production.

Thanks - got it. So it looks like nobody has reported receiving any product with trains on the rear shelves.

I wonder if Lionel intentionally changed the final product and didn't ship any product with trains on the back shelves and this falls under Lionel's fine print of reserving the right to change the product from what is depicted in the catalogue without notice, or if this is an actual QC issue and Lionel "neglected" to add the trains in the manufacturing process.

I got mine wired up and the problems continues. . . when I powered it up I was surprised that the lights came on (thinking that they would come on when I would flip the switch) and it looked great. Next, I flipped the switch and on came the layouts. Things worked well until I noticed that the layout on the far right (if you are looking at the building from the front) started to "stick" and make a cling noise and then recover. I found out that it would usually "stick" when it gets around or begins a corner. Also, just to mention for those who ask, no the other two layouts do not have this same problem. Any ideas?

Fortunately, mine is still working properly. What voltage are you running it at ? I have mine at 14v.

It sounds like a mechanical problem and not an electronic one - possibly a lubrication, clearance, belt, gear or pulley issue.

Check this link for pics of the underside set up and possible solutions, although since it's brand new, I'm not sure I would take it apart. Maybe try to exchange it for the one the store still has.

To answer your question, I give it about 16 volts. Thanks for the link! I agree that it might be some small problem and I also agree with you on trading it. In the end, I really don’t want to bother my dealer since we all have been having a hard time with Lionel. Thanks again for giving me some help.
