My dilemma is that I'm just getting back into model trains since my dad passed. I began setting up the X-Mas layout last night and my a/c adapter for my command base shattered in my hand when I unplugged it from the wall. I've searched around but been unable to find just the power supply. Any idea where I can get one?
Thanks!!
WOW, where were you storing the command base and adapter that the plastic would become brittle? Do you have a picture? Maybe your base will suffer the same demise.
It was stored in a loc-tite container in the basement for 4+ years. Hadn't been touched. I don't know if there was pressure on the box or what. I didn't even think to take a picture before throwing it out. The top and plastic around the 3 prongs themselves are what broke into pieces when i tried to unplug it. It left the 3 prongs and the wire as the only thing attached....was quite fun trying to unplug it from there with no casing lol
Not sure how it might have happened unless it was exposed to excessive heat but it sounds like the part suffered from plasticizer migration. Plasticizers are the components in plastic that keep them from becoming brittle.
I suspect the container had a lower concentration of the plasticisers than the adapter and through migration the percentages were equalized.
Very unusual.
